Bible Verse: Job
29:4 NIV
Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's
intimate friendship blessed my house.
Intimacy or into me:
Genuine, fulfilling intimacy is very risky business.
Sadly, many people do not get the chance to experience
the kind of intimate relationships that we’re
intended to have. Humans are complex creatures.
There are so many different layers to us. Very few
individuals actually take the time to figure themselves
out, let alone care about what really exists underneath
someone else’s armour.
Even
in committed long term relationships -- husband
and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, parent and child
-- we rarely get to the heart of true understanding.
Intimacy is not just physical. Intellectually, emotionally,
and even spiritually, we often simply exist together.
Although we may have occasional intimate moments,
the connection often disappears or is eroded over
time.
When
we fail to seek out intimate relationships, we miss
so much of the kind of life God wants us to have.
We end up being, ultimately, all about us. Yet,
even when we attempt to know ourselves intimately,
we often stop short of true understanding, preferring
to concentrate on “feeling good” and
meeting our own selfish needs.
The
Lord has given us a psyche that yearns for closeness
and connection. True intimacy involves seeking the
best life for ourselves and for others. We can only
do that with God’s help. Are you ready to
take the risk of opening yourself up to the best
life He has to offer?
