Bible Verse: Job
32:17,18
I also will answer my part, I too will declare my
opinion. For I am full of words; The spirit within
me compels me.
That's not what I heard
I often hear “well I was impressed to…”,
“the Holy Spirit told me… ”, “I
was moved to...” etc. from those who are acquainted
with the work of the Spirit. I used to shy away
from people who spoke like this until I grew to
experience my own spiritual intuition. Yet, I admit
I tend to mention the work of the Spirit in my life
in the presence of those who understand what I’m
talking about rather than those who do not.
One
matter that has emerged lately is the issue of opposing
messages. Recently, I was working on a task with
someone who wanted to know why we were taking a
particular direction. I answered that it was based
on the Spirit’s leading. The individual adamantly
stated that this was impossible as the Spirit had
led them to interpret the situation a totally different
way. So, who was right?
It’s
very easy to doubt, become offended, or wonder at
their audacity when others question what God has
told us. However, it’s always better just
to leave it to the Lord. Stick to your convictions
and have faith in your relationship. If you’re
unsure, go back to the Lord for confirmation. He
will direct you.
It’s
also possible to become proud about the leading
of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and sometimes start
using the “Holy Spirit said…”
as a catch phrase. The Spirit speaks to everyone,
and we just have to ensure that we’re really
listening to Him and act accordingly.
