Bible Verse: Hebrews
10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without
wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)…
The profession of your faith:
The word profession, in the context of our text
above, refers to our open declaration to the certainty
of our faith. In addition, to profess means to affirm
our belief openly, without reservation, so that
none are in doubt of whom or what we believe. The
word profession also signifies an occupation or
a career. For example, a Doctor is identified by
the fact that he practices Medicine. As believers,
we should be known by the practice of our faith.
In this verse, James implies that faith does not
end at our belief in God. Our faith is our line
of work. Each day, it is what we acknowledge or
speak openly about to others. And as it becomes
so ingrained in our being, people will begin to
identify us by the way we apply our faith, which
is our profession.
As we speak our faith steadfastly to others, it
becomes authentic to us and genuine to them. And
as we claim God’s promises in faith, they
become more than just verses we read. They are the
very essence of who we are and where our feet remain
planted. God’s promises are sure and available
to all those who have the profession of their faith,
and who openly profess their belief in Him.
