For Those Who Are Sick

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:14, 15

We know that life is full of aches and pains or minor ailments of one kind or another. We expect these, believing that they are just symptoms of the stressful lives we lead and our tendency to overexert ourselves. Yet, because of our world of sin, many will suffer under the weight of a debilitating pain or malady that will shake them to the core and possibly cause us to question if God still cares.

The prospect of facing a serious illness is something that unsettles us all. It reminds us of our mortality and the fact that we really have no control over life. We have all been touched with sickness in one way or another. Lately, it seems that there are never ending stories of chronic conditions and life-threatening maladies affecting too many of the people I know. My family has suffered what seems like its fair share and is continuing to rally around those who are in ill health.

However, before we throw up our hands in defeat, we must remember that the name of the Lord still has the power to heal and to make whole. If there are any of you or your loves ones that are not well or faced with a serious illness, I encourage you to follow the advice of James and call for your brothers and sisters to pray for you. God has not forgotten you. We are not in this life without hope and without a Saviour. Call on God and claim your healing, for the prayer of faith will save
the sick.
