Guarding our Sanity

Bible Verse: 1 Chronicles 28:9

As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

Guarding Our Sanity

Today, there are many individuals who are suffering from diseases of the mind. Whether medically or socially based conditions, many individuals struggle with illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Hospital wards are overloaded with those who have lost their sanity and are trapped in the dark world of their confusion.

Some of us may believe that we have complete control over our thoughts. We choose what to think about and how we respond to life’s sometimes cruel challenges. However, among those individuals suffering from mental illness, for some it was as simple as being unable to deal with the painful and fearful realities of life that caused their conditions to deteriorate.

If we do not guard the avenues of our mind, let the Lord take control of our thoughts, or learn how to focus on heavenly things in stressful situations, we’re opening ourselves up to dangerous and evil influences. How can we go through without the Lord? Thankfully, we’re blessed to be able to take our trials and tribulations to Him and allow Him to see us through difficult days, and give us peace through our tears.

Being tuned into Christ is the best and most effective way to guard our sanity and good judgement. We don’t have to bear our burdens alone and we can live lives in peaceful harmony with God’s will.
